Even though we won’t be getting together in the usual way this Easter, as the foundation of Christianity, we think it’s really valuable to spend time this week reflecting on the events of the Easter story and what it means to us as Christians. There are loads of great ways to do this in your bubble, including Easter services and gatherings online. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Sealed: An Easter Devotion
Women’s Ministries has produced a six-part devotional series based around some of the themes of Easter. Each section takes you through a different part of the Easter story with a short reading, including some great insights and questions to encourage reflection. It works well as a personal devotion, or as something to go through and discuss with others in your bubble or with mates online. Check it out here.
During the lockdown, the Salvation Army is providing resources and suggestions for connecting with others in our church communities on the Salvation Online website. This includes weekly Sunday services and special Easter services streaming on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. These kick off at 10am and you can tune in at SalvationOnline.org.nz or on The Salvation Army NZFTS Facebook page.
'Easter From Your House' Night Church
The Central Division youth team have organised an online Easter Camp Night Church for Easter Sunday. Join them for a time of worship, games, testimony and getting into God’s word. It kicks off at 7pm Sunday and anyone is welcome to tune in – just click here to join. Northen and Southern Easter Camps are also streaming live events over the weekend, so check out their Facebook pages for details.
The Bible Project
The Bible Project produces quality and engaging videos on different themes and books of the Bible, including some looking at the events of Easter, how they fit into the overarching story of the Bible and what they mean for us today. Check out some of our top video picks here:
RightNow Media has a ton of free Easter Bible study series to stream. Watch one by yourself or work through it with an online small group. Check them out here.
The YouVersion Bible app has loads of great Easter devotionals and reading plans. Just search ‘YouVersion’ in the app store on your smartphone.
