It's a bit of a tradition in New Zealand that part way through the year young people (and older if you're into it), give up food for 40 hours in order to raise funds for those in need around the globe. This year the 40 Hour Famine and is running from the 10-12 June.
World Vision are a Christian organisation who are totally dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome extreme poverty and injustice. They want to share God's unconditional love with people all around the world - and the 40 Hour Famine is a simple way we can help them raise funds to achieve this.
The 40 Hour Famine has always been about living in someone else’s shoes and this year is no different. The 2017 40 Hour Famine is about a generation of young New Zealanders uniting; friends, classmates, families, clubs and schools to show the world that we are standing side by side with our brothers and sisters in Syria.
What are you doing on 9-11 June? There's nothing better than doing your bit to help others in need. Get creative and challenge your mates to see who can raise the most funds. You can do the 40 Hour Famine on your own, with your buddies, or join one of the celebrity teams. Get in touch with your corps or youth leader - they might have something organised, or you could totally convince them to do something. Check out this year's 'One Weekend One Backpack' challenge!
It’s up to you, but whatever you do, take the time out to thank God for all he's given us and the opportunity to serve others.
