Safe to Serve

safetoserve-page Every person working with children and youth within the New Zealand, Fiji & Tonga Territory must be thoroughly screened before any position can be held. This screening procedure is designed to provide a safe and secure environment for the children and youth we reach.

The following steps need to be followed when considering someone for ministry to/with children and youth:

- Be part of the Corps for at least 6 months before serving in children/youth ministry
- Attend Safe to Serve training, contact your local DHQ to find out when these are going to be held in your region
- Complete a Police check which is done every three years.
- Sign a Code of conduct form
- Sign a Volunteer agreement or Employment agreement

Save to Serve has been designed to provide guidelines and a framework for children's and youth work within The Salvation Army.

This manual will help you plan and prepare effective, safe and inspiring children's and youth ministry. The Manual is divided into four main sections:

- Guidelines and Procedures: Including guidelines on the preparation of food, discipline, safe use of social networking, transporting children and youth home, and everything in between!

- Useful Contacts and Index: An extensive list of both Salvation Army and useful external contacts.

- Forms and checklists: These are an essential part of safe practice, and forms are available to download and print out

- Starter Kit: An introduction to safety and care guidelines for Salvation Army children and youth work in New Zealand (see below)
